Julie’s curation of the world for Carton Magazine (@cartonmagazine) is a collage of beauty—combining objects in unexpected and sophisticated ways. She is constantly recognizing new brands and creative talent. We have been grateful to know Julie as a friend of ARSHIE from our earliest days. Despite the intense heatwave, Julie elegantly navigated the streets of Paris in our Seta Blazer making it distinctly her own. Now that is je ne sais quoi!

I am Julie, the founder of Carton Magazine, a magazine on Instagram. I am also a content creator for brands and an art director.

I'd say my personal style is simple, comfortable, a bit "masculine" even if that doesn't really mean much. I like beautiful pieces that last, made from nice materials: slightly baggy jeans, a soft cashmere, a white t-shirt, a nice tennis-stripe jacket, a nice jacket that has a bit of structure like the one I'm wearing today. A jacket where you have pockets on the inside — obviously, it's practical. I like to travel pretty light, I can even do without a bag when I wear that jacket. The pockets are pretty big: your phone, your keys, the transport card, your bank card, and you're set!

What would someone learn about you if they emptied your pockets right now?

That I'm an old-fashioned girl. Putting everything on my phone is really not my thing. It would be practical, sure, but I tend to avoid anything that makes me even more dependent on apps.

What usually ends up in your pocket without you realizing?

Receipts, business cards, even if these tend to disappear now (and that's a good thing, it stops them piling up at the bottom of my pockets or worse, in the street).

Is there anything with sentimental value that you always carry or hold for nostalgia, calm, or a good luck charm?

They have no real sentimental or symbolic value, but I always carry a four-leaf clover that's not really lucky (sent by a brand, so...) and a colored stone I picked up during a studio visit. I like the idea of calling them lucky charms just because I like them.

What's something you wish our pockets were designed to hold?

If you make jackets with a cooled pocket, I'm in right away! Perfect for staying cool in summer and carrying a snack for the day (something like an onigiri, my guilty pleasure).

What is your favorite pastime in Paris?

Eating, eating, eating!

Are there any movies or books that influence the way you approach your work?

No real ideas, but I admit I often think of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City when I work, like her, sitting at my desk looking out the window.

What are you carrying in your ARSHIE Pocket today?

MY TRANSPORT CARD, CREDIT CARD, ID CARD (MY MOTHER ALWAYS TOLD ME TO NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!). EVERY OTHER DAY, I ALSO THINK OF A LIP BALM.
